Avoiding the risk of mail room contamination from “white powder” attack is a key security priority for many government and commercial establishments. This product facilities the opening of suspect mail in a controlled environment.
This unit has a number of filters to ensure that any contaminants are contained within the body of the unit. Should a incident arise then all openings and vents can be locked down with the unit still powered up so that the filters continue to work and scrub the air clean. Eventually the unit can be removed from site for controlled decomanination.
Our role in this product development program was to advise the originator of the product on product and design issues related to getting the product into product.
Originally the design specification called for a fully moulded body. However, as volume was initially uncertain we recommended moving to a fabricated aluminium product that would be quick and easy to get into production and avoid the very substantial tooling costs that would otherwise have been incurred. A new control panel was devised using solid state pressure sensors and analogue amplification/displays to avoid the need to obtain EMC test certification thereby avoid another major set up cost whilst allowing the technical file route to be used for CE marking.
A small production cell was then set up in-
